Summer Hunger Foodraiser
May 19, 2018 @ 6:00PM — 9:00PM Eastern Time (US & Canada)
Bridging the summer hunger gap when schools are out and food insecurity is high for kids and families.
Summer is typically a time that most children long for. But when schools are out, meals are often missed due to the unavailability of school breakfast and lunch programs. According to Feeding America's May 2017 "Map the Meal Gap" report, New Mexico's children rank 2nd nationally for childhood hunger. A full QUARTER of our children in Bernalillo County are facing hunger. Plus our state's overall hunger rate is 16% so 1 out of every 6 adults and children are missing meals and going hungry!
Rio Grande Food Project, John XXIII Catholic Community's food pantry and long-time supporters of these organizations, Terry and Jeannette Dunbar, are joining forces to "bridge the gap" as best we can. John XXIII Catholic Community's pantry, located on the east side of Albuquerque, provides food every Thursday to 30-40 households. Rio Grande Food Project, the largest food pantry on Albuquerque's west side, serves an average of 4,260 kids, adults and seniors every month. The Food Project sources locally grown, donated, rescued and purchased foods to provide groceries to households facing financial challenges while also connecting people to community resources, partners and opportunities to maximize limited budgets and reduce and prevent food-insecurity.
This "Foodraiser" Event will take place at the private residence of Terry and Jeannette Dunbar where there will be food, beverages and a silent auction. If you can help with an auction item please call our Development Director, Kathi Cunningham, at (505) 288-9326 or email kathi@rgfp.org and we will pick up your donation.
Let's make summer fun again! Your support and generosity will make a significant difference in the quality of life and the health of our neighbors who would otherwise not know where their next meal is coming from.
