Please join Rio Grande Food Project and help to build a community where EVERY child, adult, and senior has enough nutritious food!

A donation of ANY amount will go a long way in helping me meet my personal fundraising goal for the organization I love most, it will boost our overall Rio Grande Food Project 6th annual Hike to End Hunger campaign success, but MOST importantly, it will put food on the table for a person who may otherwise have none. This may be a kid trying to focus on her homework, or a single mom working two jobs, a grandma on a small fixed income caring for her three grandkids, or an auto mechanic who's worked his whole life, lost his job during the pandemic and has NEVER before had to ask for help... these are the community members we see every week in our outdoor drive-thru food distribution lines. These are our friends and neighbors.

For 32 years, Rio Grande Food Project has built community around hunger relief and prevention on Albuquerque's west side, and created food sourcing partnerships that turn a dollar into enough groceries for 5 nutritious meals. Folks are welcome to pick up food as often as 2 times a week right now. Each pickup lasts an average-size household a little over four days and includes about 45 lbs. of nutritious and healthy foods. RGFP food is a mix of community food drive donations, food bank purchases and donations, USDA TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) foods, locally and organically grown fruits and vegetables, bulk purchases, and grocery store donations. We believe that food is better than no food, but we are certain that healthy food is medicine, so we strive to provide healthy foods always, including locally and organically grown produce. Income level should not determine nutrition level.

RGFP's urban garden is a source of nutrient-dense produce like kale, tomatoes, peppers, peaches, strawberries, potatoes, onions and even asparagus! Food is harvested, weighed and immediately distributed. Kids play, learn, and taste cherry tomatoes for the first time here... community members plant, harvest, and find respite here.

RGFP is a community hub that connects those visiting with community resources and programs "beyond food" that aim to address the causes and effects of food insecurity. Bill assistance, employment opportunities, public benefit enrollment assistance, physical and mental health service information, financial literacy and nutrition education, phone and internet access, as well as cooking and gardening classes have all helped grow household budgets, health, and happiness.

Thank you SO MUCH for helping Rio Grande Food Project build a hunger-free community!
