They could be working but their paychecks don't cover all expenses or family members...
They could be elderly and their retirement or social security isn't enough...
They could be your child's classmate, having difficulty concentrating, or irritable because they haven't eaten since yesterday's school lunch...
Hunger is a huge problem in the United States, and New Mexico currently ranks #1 in childhood hunger. Many people face food insecurity even though they are working 40+ hours. One unexpected medical bill or car repair can force people to choose between buying groceries and paying rent, mortgages or bills. If one is hungry, they often cannot focus, may experience detrimental mood swings, have difficulty maintaining functionality either in school or the workplace and are physically, mentally and emotionally at a disadvantage over their well-nourished peers and colleagues.
Please help me support those people we see every day, who may need our help with their most basic needs - enough nutritious food to live a healthy and happy life.
